painting from the street last sunday, 6/14/09. i hadn’t painted a landscape since artschool. size = 2′ x 4′
still travelling back in time and playing ketch-up to post the work i’ve done over the past 2-3 weeks. during this time, my schedule changed quite suddenly and now i’m working on getting into the groove. boy you’ve got to prove.
this was the first time in a long time that i felt all 6 drawings/paintings i did at an AFG 15-minute pose session were decent enough to post online. usually there’s one or two i leave out cause they suck. so yay for me, and toot toot my own horn. this model did some really cool poses that were fun to draw, esp the karate type one.
that’s how i say my dates. it’s one of the side affects of being a computer programmer.
anyway i’ve been slacking on posting my life drawings even though i’ve still been making it to AFG every monday. i was posting things chronologically with the publish date but today i am being crazy and going back in time.
tonight we had a special AFG session where the model posed for 2 HOURS. that’s unheard of. we always do 15 minute poses so it was somewhat blasphemous. a few of us, including myself, painted on 2×4′ boards donated to us by the lovely ampersand art people. here’s mine:

cos its due back at the video store tomorrow. gonna watch the watchmen tomorrow too, not at the video store. it just came out this weekend and i see ppl on the interwebz freakin over it. in 4 years from now, this paragraph will seem so 4 years ago. (video stores??)
spaced has been a lot of fun to watch. i’ve realized i really like shows/movies when the characters are kinda losers. i also love it when they talk about brian doing art (his influences are pain, anger, fear) or when that raver guy starts jammin out anytime something makes a repeating noise.
on these drawings, i made an effort to start out by drawing lightly for longer. the last 2 are on masonite, which has been really fun to draw on.
i’ll be showing some paintings at the blue ocean gallery on friday the 13th, along with some other AFG folks.
i was excited to put together this flyer for the show:

i did these at a life-drawing event that artseen alliance did. coco from the jigglewatts modeled. they played some sweet 80’s jamz
it was only once in a blue moon that i’d draw instead of paint at the AFG sessions. today was the first time i gave it a shot in a long time, as i had been feeling in a bit of painting rut.
the paintathon was hardcore… we had 5 models and painted for about 4 hours straight. 15 minute poses, as always.
this is a 2′ x 4′ i painted. this was one of the first times that i went to the AFG sessions at the blue ocean studio. i hadn’t done any life painting since the horse barn in the spring… which translates to about 5-6 months i’d guess.
i didn’t like much else i painted that night, but this was the first time i painted a figure on such a large area. it was radical. there was also a camera crew there filming us, which i felt sorta inhibited me making bad paintings.
