wow i haven’t posted for a long time. these are from last week. i gave painting a shot again and was ok with it. though i enjoy the drawings more (only posting 1 out of 4 paintings i did). for the first time in my life as i’m typing this i just questioned why we put double spaces after periods and it was awesome. so was nick swardson at the paramount on friday night. i LOLd like the whole time.

this is my pitch for spiderman 4. it’s called “spiderman begins.” i showed this painting at the birdhouse gallery in east austin on saturday night. the show was a group self portrait show, and there was some really nice work there. the show runs through April 12th.
tonight we had a special AFG session where the model posed for 2 HOURS. that’s unheard of. we always do 15 minute poses so it was somewhat blasphemous. a few of us, including myself, painted on 2×4′ boards donated to us by the lovely ampersand art people. here’s mine:

the paintathon was hardcore… we had 5 models and painted for about 4 hours straight. 15 minute poses, as always.
this is a 2′ x 4′ i painted. this was one of the first times that i went to the AFG sessions at the blue ocean studio. i hadn’t done any life painting since the horse barn in the spring… which translates to about 5-6 months i’d guess.
i didn’t like much else i painted that night, but this was the first time i painted a figure on such a large area. it was radical. there was also a camera crew there filming us, which i felt sorta inhibited me making bad paintings.

unfortunately we never ended up having the AFG group show of paintings of paris hilton. maybe we can do again, but a running theme was supposed to be paris hilton running for president… and some peeps felt like what was the point after teh electionz. i dunno, whatevz, these were the two not political paintings i did for it (they’re small):
